For this medieval-themed game, Zynga asked for something “fantasy, but heavy and bold.”
I started by sketching out an alphabet of what those words suggested to me, then traced them in Illustrator.
I constructed several versions of each letter, going from simple and straight to curvy and ornate.
The Zynga crew liked many of the options, so we created an upper & lowercase “Text” family, along with fancier, small caps “Display”.
These fonts (as well as the rougher, notched-out version in my original sketch) are available through Comicraft as Excalibur Sword and Excalibur Stone.
